Motivation
In June 1999
The Talent Foundation commissioned a report which took stock
of what is known about motivation for work-related learning,
then considered how such motivation might be increased.
The report was conducted by Bamford Tagg Ltd building on
the work of psychologists, economists, sociologists and
ethnologists. The study defines what is meant by work-related
learning and identifies the people whose motivation is the
subject of the study. Various processes which build motivation
in the minds of individual workers are examined and
illustrated in models. Employers' motivation to support
individuals' learning is also explored.
The report concludes with recommendations as to how to
address the most important issues which stop people taking up
work-related learning.
